Tree Planting Program at Wied Ghollieqa Nature Reserve 2003

Andrea Aguis, Ryan, Nikolai and Ryan Busuttil, Scouts and Cubs scouts from the Qrendi Scout Group and Guides and Rangers from the Mosta Girl Guides teamed up on a cold and wet Saturday morning, assisting Nature Trust (Malta) in its Green 2000 tree planting campaign.
The Scouts and guides, on Saturday the 18th January 2003 planted Maltese national trees, the Sacargum Tree (gharaghar) at Wied Ghollieqa reserve opting to finance the adoption of Trees in lieu of the receiving of Christmas presents over the festive season.
Addressing the large contingent of Nature lovers, Parliamentary Secretary the Hon. George Pullicino emphasized on the need to protect our environment for our children and ourselves. Praising Nature Trust (Malta) and its dedicated members, Mr. Pullicino thanked HSBC for their sponsorship of the event and the Scout and Guide Associations for their high sense of commitment having turned up very early in the morning and assisting Nature Trust in the tree planting activities despite the numerous rainy showers during the whole morning.
Muddy and extremely wet, the scouts and guides returned home only too happy to have done their part in the forestation of another small part of the Maltese island having had trees named in honour of their respective groups and units.
