The Scout Association of Malta on RTK Radio Fm 103.0

A Scout Troop made out of scouts from the St Venera and Qrendi Scout Group, on Tuesday 18th March 2003 participated on a live radio program. “Zghazagh bla Kantunieri”, transmitted on RTK Radio FM 103. The program chaired by Ms Sonia Young assisted by Councilor Dione Mifsud elaborated on the need and the benefit arising from voluntary work as carried out by scout groups and the Scout Association within their respective communities, giving its members a greater, “Sense of belonging”.

Claude and Jean Calleja, Damien Pace, Daniel Cuccardi from the St Venera Group teaming up with Karl Magro, Rodienne Zerafa, Dorita Cutajar and Svetlana Bartolo from the Qrendi Group, were all given an opportunity to air their experiences whilst performing various voluntary work. The troop mentioned Nature Trust, Din l’Art Helwa, Local Councils, Residential Homes as entities that benefit from Scouting voluntary activities, whilst thanking the St John’s Ambulance, Red Cross, Health Promotion Department, The Royal Life Saving Society, The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and the Civil Protection Department as NGO’s who in turn offer their services to their scout groups and association.

Accompanying the troop, the Scout Association’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Mario Calleja and Commissioner for Human Resources Mr. David Schembri explained the aims and role of the Scout Association of Malta, whilst taking the time to promote to the Malta Environment Scout Award and the Din L’Art Helwa Scout Heritage Award amongst other initiatives that are included in the scouting program.

All present, heartily thanked the RTK program broadcaster Ms Sonia Young and Councilor Mr. Dione Mifsud for their encouragement and for being given the opportunity to share their experiences “on air” with the station listeners. Souvenirs were presented by RTK to all as a reminder of their visit to the RTK radio station.
