A 28-year-old Brown Deer woman linked to numerous jewelry thefts at homes in several communities turned herself in to Mequon police Sept. 22.

Ieshanoe Govani was charged Sept. 18 in Ozaukee County Circuit Court with one count of felony theft. She was charged Sept. 25, also in Ozaukee County, with two additional counts of felony theft.

The charges relate to thefts in Mequon, Thiensville and Cedarburg.

Mequon police said she has also been linked to three cases elsewhere in Ozaukee County, and two cases in Whitefish Bay. She denied involvement in a second Mequon case.

According to police, Govani said her former boyfriend, a 29-year-old Milwaukee man, suggested she steal jewelry, much of which he then sold.

“I was looking for love in all the wrong places,” she reportedly told police, adding that she was depressed and using drugs at the time.

She was charged in connection with these incidents, according to police:

  • The April 7 theft from a home in the 9700 block of Valley Hill Drive, Mequon, where about $50,000 worth of jewelry was reported missing, including two gold rings with a combined value of $30,600. She worked for a home health care service at the time.
  • A theft reported Feb. 9 in the 400 block of Park Crest Drive in Thiensville. Govani, also working for the home health care service, is accused of taking about $15,800 worth of jewelry.
  • A theft reported Sept. 12 to Cedarburg police in the 500 block of Edgewater Drive. In this case, Govani, now working for a maid service, is accused of taking a ring valued at $13,475.

Govani was also working for the maid service when theft of jewelry worth a combined $3,900 was reported Sept. 11 as having taken place Aug. 6 from a home in the 7200 block of West Witteron Pond Road, Mequon. She told police she was not involved in this theft.

She was scheduled to be in court for a hearing Oct. 7 on all three charges.
