How to be a good partner in youth Projects - Zakopane, Poland

The Qrendi Scout Group – Malta, together with youth representatives from Portugal, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Greece, Italy, Romania, Cyprus and France were invited by the Polish Rural Youth Union to join the host country Poland, at a European Youth Exchange held in Zakopane, Poland.

The seminar entitled, ‘How to be a good partner in youth Projects “ was held between the 25th – 30th September 2005 at Zakopane, situated in southern Poland, about 100 km to the south of Krakow, and located in a valley at the foot of the Tetras, the highest mountains in Poland.

Representing the Qrendi Scout Group were Group Scout Leader David Schembri and Scout Leader Louis Sammut, both of whom assumed an active role through their participation in the said seminar, addressing the participants in various topics and disciplines. Members of the Polish Rural Youth Union joined by members of the Polish National Agency also addressed the participants on various topics as to how to organize Youth Projects.

The beauty of Zakopane was experienced by all participants during the various site seeing activities that were organized by the members of Polish Rural Youth Union, whom left no stone unturned in their efforts to promote their organization and country.

Following a most successful project, the Qrendi Scout Group leaders opted to extend their visit to Poland by staying a further few days at Krakow, the former Polish Capital. A week of cultural and historic visits was made possible through the kind assistance offered by our host, Ms Ewa Lypko, who recommended the area’s most important landmarks and places of interest.

A two day ‘stop over” on their return to Malta in Frankfurt Germany, courtesy of Rolf and Doris Hanssen, and lodging the Maltese leaders at their homes, rounded up a truly fruitful and most enjoyable fortnight.

The beauty of the Maine River as well as the more splendid wooded countryside and environment was visited during the short stay in Germany.

But the greatest experience in Germany was the hospitality extended by the Hanseen family who let the Qrendi Leaders take over their home during their stay in Frankfurt.
