Of Course, The White House Gift Shop Is Selling Donald Trump COVID-19 Merch

In news that will shock no one, the White House Gift Shop is officially selling Donald Trump COVID-19 merch following the announcement of president’s positive diagnosis on October 2, along with many in his inner circle.

Priced at $100, the White House Gift Shop is selling a commemorative coin to mark President Trump’s alleged “defeat” of the virus, which the White House gift shop is calling a “historic moment in history.”

To sweeten the deal, the first 1,500 orders will receive a “Presidential Blue PPE mask,” because, you know, the 45th President has long been such a fan of face masks! “I am pleased to announce the pre-release of the final commemorative art coin in the Historic Moments in History Series, a new commemorative that vividly shows President Trump’s historic presidential candidacy win, itself, from his descent on the elevator in Trump Tower, against an army of highly qualified Republican presidential candidates confluent with Media naysayers—to present day with President Trump’s ascendance over and defeat of the deadly COVID pandemic virus,” the coin’s designer, Anthony Giannini, wrote in the item’s description.

CNBC White House reporter Christina Wilkie shared the news about the coin on Twitter, and Twitter users wasted no time poking fun at the ridiculous merchandise. “For $150, Trump will personally cough on the coin,” wrote one user. “Which stage of capitalism is this?” added another, and we’d love to know too.

“It should read ‘Donald J Trump exploited the health care system he contributes nothing to and used experimental treatment unavailable to the public on your dime’ but I imagine that’s hard to fit on a coin,” added another. “If they sell 7 and a half, Trump can pay his taxes,” tweeted one user, referring to Trump’s reported $750 federal income tax bill.

However ridiculous this Trump COVID-19 merch ploy is (and it is completely ridiculous), it is worth noting that the White House Gift Shop isn’t directly affiliated with the White House itself. It was created in 1946 as the White House Flower Fund by President Truman, but the Gift Shop is now privately owned.

According to the Gift Shop’s site, 20% of proceeds from this coin’s sales will be donated to PennState’s Hershey Medical Center for COVID prevention and to the school’s Cancer Institute. If anyone wants to purchase the commemorative coin for… reasons… pre-orders are available to ship on November 14.
