The Qrendi Scout Group Scarf

Since the foundation in 1934 of the former Qrendi Scout Group, it was the group’s wish to have their village coat of arms incorporated in their scarf’s design. It was therefore unanimously agreed that the scarf colours should be red and white superimposed by a five-pointed star.

It seems that the fashioning out of a five-pointed star imposed a problem on the available resources and it was thus decided that a six pointed version be used instead due to its symmetry.

However the reason for the change in colour from Silver Grey to Navy Blue is somewhat uncertain. The scarf was officially registered as the Qrendi Scout Group colours with the Scout Association until the group was rendered inactive in 1964

When in 1994 the Qrendi Scout Group reapplied for affiliation within the Scout Association, the same line of thought as the former group was adopted. With the formation of the Local Councils in Malta the Qrendi Local Council coat of arms was established as a blue shield with a superimposed five pointed Silver Star.

The new Qrendi Scarf was therefore officially registered in November 1994. The newer version of the Qrendi Scouts Scarf served as the official Group’s colours from the Group’s official inauguration on the 23rd May 1995 to the year 2000. The words “Qrendi” were added below the Silver Star within the blue shield.

When the dispute between the Qrendi Local Council and the Local Council Association over the correct version of the village’s coat of arms was resolved and the community was again assigned with a different and modified coat of arms, the Qrendi scouts, with the change of the millennium, followed suit.

The latest and modified Qrendi Scarf was to have the different version of the village coat of arms consisting of a Sky Blue shield bordered in Gold superimposed by a Silver Star five-pointed star. The red and white scarf colours were retained.
