Women’s March Cleveland to rally for women’s rights Oct. 17

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland women will take part in a national Women’s March event on Saturday, Oct. 17 on Cleveland’s east side.

The rally will start at 1 p.m. in Ward 1 outside at the Harvard Community Services Center at 18240 Harvard Avenue, with speakers and entertainment, followed by a 2:15 pm march. More than 500 people are expected to protest racial injustice and attacks on women’s rights, including abortion.

Women’s March Cleveland will be holding a sister march to the national marches that will be held throughout the country on Oct. 17, including in Washington D.C.

COVID-19 and the disappearance of millions of working women

If it wasn’t clear before this month’s job numbers, it is now: the pandemic is turning back the clock for women.

In September, more than 1.1 million workers left the labor force, meaning they were no longer working or looking for work. A full 80 percent of those workers were women, with Latinas especially overrepresented. In fact, a net 2.65 million women have left the labor force since February. These numbers are unprecedented. Before this year, January 1958 held the record for women’s labor force losses. In that month 62 years ago, 550,000 women left the labor force — hundreds of thousands fewer than this September. 

Alternatively, if we look at labor force participation rates, 56.8 percent of women were in the labor force in September, compared to 59.2 percent in February. The current rate was last seen late in the Reagan administration. We have lost more than a generation

Panthers take enhanced precautions against virus

The Latest on the effects of the coronavirus outbreak on sports around the world:

The Carolina Panthers are taking enhanced precautions against the coronavirus following their exposure to Falcons defensive tackle Marlon Davidson during Sunday’s win at Atlanta. The Falcons placed Davidson on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday.

Carolina has entered the NFL’s “intensive protocol.” The team is still scheduled to practice Wednesday afternoon in preparation for Sunday’s game against the Bears.

Under the new protocols established this week, all coaches and staff must wear masks at practice and all players must wear a face shield or mask. Players can remove their helmets for breaks but must be more than 6 feet away from one another.


Team meetings will be held either outdoors or virtually. Coaches may not have any in-person meetings in a room smaller than the full-team room and only 10 players are allowed in the weight room

Anita Hill Study Finds Women Twice as Likely to Be Bullied at Work

Bullying runs rampant in Hollywood and is largely unchecked, serving as a gateway to sexual harassment and abuse in the workplace. And women are twice as likely to experience abusive workplace conduct than men.

These troubling, yet perhaps unsurprising, pieces of information come from Anita Hill’s Hollywood Commission, which has released its third round of research from a groundbreaking industry-wide survey that aims to improve workplace safety and equality across all of entertainment. The survey, which was conducted over the course of three months, included nearly 10,000 participants who are working in Hollywood.

The first time Ediana Quijada found a lump in her breast, she was laughed off and told “it was happening because of her period and nothing to worry about.”

It was far from nothing. After a six-year battle with metastatic breast cancer, the cheerful Houston native is happy to share her story with other young women, advising regular breast exams, early detection having made a key difference in many cases.

New York’s Twentyeight Health is taking the wildly telemedicine services for women’s health popularized by companies like Nurx and bringing them to a patient population that previously hadn’t had access.

Will You Please Like Me?’ Trump Asks At PA Rally

JOHNSTOWN, PA — President Trump on Tuesday held a rally in Pennsylvania in which he implored suburban women voters that he needs to win the Nov. 3 election to support him.

“Suburban women: Will you please like me?” he asked. “Please. Please. I saved your damn neighborhood, OK?”

Trump has returned to the campaign trail after having tested positive for the coronavirus almost two weeks ago. After a rally in Florida on Monday, he made his second public appearance outside of Washington since being diagnosed with the virus.

He spoke for more than an hour in Johnstown to a crowd of thousands, most of whom were not wearing masks or observing social distancing despite the coronavirus outbreak. Claiming he was now immune from the virus, Trump offered to kiss members of the audience.
