The Coats family lost four of their six children in the fire on May 5
SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) — On May 5, a family living near Melrose, Wis., suffered a tragic loss.
The Coats family lost four young children in a fire, as well as their house and some of their pets.
Now, there’s an effort to help the Coats recover some basic necessities.
A clothing drive is underway at COW97 in Sparta.
The station’s general manager, Suzanne Hoffman, was able to get in touch with a family member and get a list of urgently needed items.
Donations have been pouring in, she said.
“There is a total sense of community here,” said Hoffman. “People care about other people and it’s wonderful to see. We had our first drop-off on Friday … and it’s continued since. So, definitely, there is a lot of help pouring in for this family in our community.”
You can drop off items at COW97’s offices at 113 West Oak St. in Sparta from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
