Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty Highlighter Review

I’m a sucker for a good highlighter; I love how ethereal it makes me feel and the glow it gives off. It’s perfect for the no-makeup look, which is something I strive for every time I reach for my makeup. I feel like adding a highlighter to my face instantly makes me look a little more dressed up, like putting on a pair of earrings or a necklace. So naturally, I couldn’t wait to test out Selena Gomez’s much-hyped Rare Beauty Positive Light Liquid Luminizer.

The liquid highlighter comes in eight colors, ranging from darker hues to one that is almost iridescent. My favorite pick is Mesmerize because it matches my skin tone and gives off a natural glow, which is something I look for in a highlighter. I have tested many beauty products in my time as an editor, but this formula felt so easy to use and didn’t budge throughout the day. When I was trying to wash off the swatches from my hand, it took a little bit of time for the makeup to come off, proving the formula is super impressive and long lasting. I also loved how the bottle has a supercute applicator that is easy to use. The price point is pretty great, too — at $22, it’s more affordable than others I’ve tried.

As for the product itself, it didn’t feel super sticky like some other liquid highlighters do. Sometimes, wearing highlighter just feels like I have a layer of goop on my face, but I forgot this one was even on until I looked in the mirror toward the end of the day. While the product does look super glittery, it’s not overbearing when you apply it onto your face.

You don’t have to apply much product to your cheekbones to get a nice shimmer; I just tapped on a few dots along my cheek with the applicator, then blended it in with my fingers. I also added a touch along the bridge of my nose to give myself a bit of a shine. Gomez clearly knew what she was doing when it came to this product — I’m not surprised since she’s mastered the *glow* herself after attending countless red carpet events over the years.
