Old coupon brings back fond memories

COLUMBIA- A business honoring an outdated coupon is nothing new, but what if that coupon is from 2002?

For William Stone, it was no surprise when G&D Steakhouse honored the gift certificate he received over 15 years ago.

“Four or five years ago I went in and asked if it was good,” Stone said. “And the fellow who owned it said ‘yes.'”

That fellow was Angelo Aslanidis, who took over running the business from his father and restaurant founder, Gus.

Angelo’s son, Michael, took over running the restaurant since the pandemic hit.

If there is one thing in common among all three of the Aslanidis men, it’s a desire to take care of every customer.

“You treat your customers like your own family,” Michael Aslanidis said. “You want to take care of them, do the right thing.”

When Stone arrived at G&D on Saturday with his coupon, it brought back

Wedding brings on in-law exclusion

DEAR AMY: My niece’s brother-in-law, “Bradley,” will be getting married later this year. My niece, “Kate,” is married to Bradley’s brother. All of Bradley’s siblings and their spouses have been asked to be in the bridal party, everyone except for Kate. Kate’s husband is in his brother’s party, but her future sister-in-law, “Julie,” has excluded Kate. Kate included Julie in her wedding party several years ago. Kate can think of nothing that would have offended Julie. How should Kate handle this upcoming wedding?

Sad Aunt

DEAR SAD AUNT: In the movie version, “Kate” would attend the wedding, get roaring drunk at the reception, and then deliver the roasty-toast of the century.

Movie pitch aside, if every single sibling and spouse has been included in the wedding party, this exclusion does seem off-kilter. However, the fact that Kate included “Julie” in her own wedding does not obligate Julie to recipro-kate.

Ideally,

Ideally, Julie would have anticipated this challenge and explained her decision to Kate — gently and respectfully — in advance of her announcement.

Kate might be able to tease out a gracious explanation by asking Julie, “I accept your decision not to ask me to be part of the wedding party, but I want to make sure — are you and

Chanel brings Hollywood glamour to Paris Fashion Week

PARIS (Reuters) – French fashion label Chanel brought a touch of tinseltown to the Paris runway on Tuesday, with glamorous feathered gowns and a nod to the Hollywood sign, recreated to spell out the brand’s name.

Models paraded in and out of the giant “Chanel” lettering, transposed from the hills of Los Angeles to the interior of Paris’ Grand Palais exhibition hall, as guests perched on stools at the socially-distanced show.

Fashion labels are only just returning to the catwalk, after shows were cancelled over the summer due to the coronavirus pandemic, and in Paris only the major luxury brands pressed ahead with physical events.

LVMH’s Louis Vuitton is due to present a collection on Tuesday, the last day of Paris Fashion Week.

Chanel’s latest outing showcased inspiration drawn from Hollywood’s 1950s heyday – with a French touch.

A short film released before the show paid tribute to actresses such

The key to surviving when you suddenly move to another country — at least in the new Darren Star Netflix rom-com Emily in Paris is to quickly find a sassy expatriate to school you in the language and make lots of sex jokes. Lily Collins’s midwestern social-media maven, Emily, happens to find that person in Mindy, a young Chinese-Korean woman who grew up partly in the U.S., fled a life of privilege, and spends her time as an au pair yelling at children in parks. She’s played by Ashley Park, a Broadway veteran who has been in everything from Mean Girls to The King and I. On the show, she gets to gallivant around Paris in fashions partly inspired by her own taste, and she shows off some of her singing talent as we learn about Mindy’s reality-competition backstory. The new fashion line, planned pre-pandemic, is Rihanna’s second foray into a live Savage x Fenty show. Ulysses 21 Brings Advanced Grammar and Style Check to iPhone and iPad

Popular writing app Ulysses received its 21st major update today, and brings the revision mode that was introduced to Mac this summer to iPad and iPhone.

Revision mode, as the name suggests, aims to aid focused text revision by hiding unnecessary features, dimming the editor theme, and highlighting annotations and suggestions.

Revision mode also includes an advanced grammar and style check powered by the LanguageTool Plus service, which can analyze texts and provide informed suggestions in categories such as capitalization, punctuation, semantics, redundancy, typography, and style.

On top of the grammar and style suggestions, users can review annotations, comments, deletions and marked text passages in this mode.

In addition to the new mode, Ulysses’ developers have reworked the app’s appearance to match the look-and-feel of iOS 14.

Ulysses can be downloaded for free on the App Store and the Mac App Store, with version 21 rolling out to existing users

Walmart brings online shopping experience in stores with app-driven redesign

Walmart stores are being “optimized” with redesigned aisles, self-checkout kiosks and app-aided directories.

The retail giant is redesigning stores to mirror its online shopping experience in real life – and to get more customers to download its app.

Walmart’s app-driven redesign will launch in 200 Supercenters by the end of the year and close to 1,000 stores by the end of 2021. (Walmart).

Walmart’s redesign will launch in 200 Supercenters by the end of the year, and close to 1,000 by the end of 2021. The retailer’s chief customer officer and an executive vice president, Janey Whiteside, says the redesign is intended to streamline how a large group of people navigate stores. It was inspired also by airports, she said.
