Nottingham stabbing: ‘Frightening’ attack outside busy shopping centre as it’s evacuated

A busy shopping centre was evacuated in Nottingham after a “frightening” stabbing in front of witnesses.

Officers investigating the stabbing outside the intu Victoria Centre shopping complex said they had arrested a teenager within minutes of the incident.

Nottinghamshire Police was called at around 1.15pm today to Milton Street, with emergency services still at the scene treating the victim.

A 17-year-old boy been arrested and remains in police custody.

Chanel Jones, 24, who works at a beauty shop in the Victoria Centre, said people were told to evacuate.

She said: “We have been all been told to get out of the Vic Centre. I work in the beauty shop upstairs. It is disgusting. I feel sick to my stomach.

Shopping centre owners still struggling to collect rent in Covid crisis

Struggling retailers increased the amount of rent paid to their landlords in September compared with three months earlier but still left property owners waiting to receive more than half of rental payments.

Landsec, the property group behind the Trinity Leeds shopping centre and Bluewater in Kent, said that it had collected only a third of rents from its retail tenants, five working days after they were due, compared with 82% of rental payments from office tenants.

The Covid-19 crisis has taken a toll, with the company saying that a year earlier it had collected 89% of retail rents and almost all (98%) office rents during the same timeframe.

Overall, it received just under two-thirds (62%) of rent due in September from all of its commercial tenants, down from 95% a year earlier.

Security guard critical after attack at Brisbane shopping centre

A security guard has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition after being bashed at a Brisbane shopping centre.

A spokesman for Queensland Police told a serious assault had occurred at the Caboolture Shopping precinct about 1.40pm on Friday.

The spokesman said the security guard, 38, had been taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Police said in another statement on Friday evening a man, 30, had been taken into custody following the incident.

Queensland Police said the man allegedly “punched the 38-year-old security guard in the face, causing him to fall backwards and strike his head on the ground.

“The victim suffered severe head injuries and was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition.”
