‘Trump defeats COVID-19’ coin goes on sale at White House-themed gift shop

Commemorative coins marking President Trump’s personal battle with COVID-19 are available for preorder from a White House-themed gift shop.

The gift shop –­­ which traces its roots to a 1946 order from then-President Harry Truman but is now privately owned –­­ is selling “Trump defeats COVID” coins online for $100 apiece, following Trump’s infection with the deadly disease and subsequent treatment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

While proceeds from items sold at the shop help pay for firearms and training for smaller law enforcement agencies, the website says 20% of the coin’s proceeds will be donated to COVID-19 prevention and cancer research.

Washington, DC – The White House Gift Shop (WHGS) started selling a “Trump defeats Covid” commemorative coin ahead of President Donald Trump’s return from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center following his hospitalisation on October 2 after he tested positive for the disease.

Anthony Giannini, chairman of the WHGS, designed the $100 coin as the final one in a series to mark Trump’s first term in office, The Hill news website said in a report.
