‘The Crown’s’ Emma Corrin On Recreating Princess Diana’s Wedding Dress

Princess Diana didn’t just become the People’s Princess when she married Prince Charles in 1981, she became a full blown fashion icon, too. That is one of the many reasons Emma Corrin was so excited to take on the role in the upcoming season of The Crown. But among all the classic looks of Princess Di’s, there’s the wedding dress, which Corrin has said was quite the experience.

Speaking to Radio Times, Corrin said recreating Princess Diana’s wedding dress for the screen was “mad”, physically very heavy, but thoroughly enjoyable. “I loved the process of the fittings actually, weirdly, almost more than the wearing it on the day,” she said.

Though the dress is only in the Netflix series for “a fraction of a moment”, an incredible amount of effort went into its making. “I had so many fittings for it, I think about probably four or five,

In the upcoming fourth season of the hit Netflix period drama, viewers will be introduced to a young Lady Diana Spencer, played by Emma Corrin, as she meets her future husband, Prince Charles.

While Princess Diana went on to become a global style icon, her sense of style was not always up to par, Corrin says.

“That was something I loved about it,” the 24-year-old told Entertainment Weekly.

“Basically, I loved young Diana. You can’t understand old Diana – older Diana – properly without understanding a 19-year-old living with her flatmates, going on her first date with Charles. You need to understand the trajectory that she underwent. But her style was

How The Crown’s Costume Designer Made Diana’s Wedding Dress

Amy Roberts, The Crown‘s costume designer, did an impressive job re-creating Princess Diana’s iconic wedding dress. Emma Corrin, who plays Diana Spencer, will be wearing the dress for the royal wedding scene with Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor) in season four of the series — and Netflix recently shared some new details on the making of the iconic replica.

Princess Diana’s original ivory-silk wedding dress worn at Buckingham Palace on July 29, 1981, was designed by Elizabeth and David Emanuel. It featured a 25-foot train, a 153-yard tulle veil, three-quarter-length puffed sleeves, and ruffles along the neckline and back of the gown. Netflix shared on Twitter that, for The Crown‘s re-creation, Roberts “wanted to pull in many of the style choices and create the same spirit of David & Elizabeth Emanuel’s original design, but make something new.”

Netflix added: “Without access to the original patterns, Amy collaborated with David

“It was as incredible as you could imagine,” Corrin tells EW. “It was wonderful. I actually really enjoyed the fittings for the dress. I’m really terrible at fittings, I’m the biggest fidget in the world. I think the whole sewing-tailor team hated me. But I found it fascinating because they literally had to build the wedding dress around me and it took ages. It was a very interesting process. It makes you feel incredibly ‘at one’ with the thing you’re wearing when you’re kind of sewn into it

Kate Middleton news: Duchess of Cambridge crafts Prince William’s gift of Diana’s jewels

Kate Middleton wore a stunning blue dress to meet with the diplomats in Buckingham Palace. She accessorised with jewellery fit for princess, made with blue sapphires.

“The quality is second to none – the sapphire boasts an even colour throughout, is beautifully cut and totally eye-clean and the surrounding diamonds have been hand-picked to perfectly match one another.

“It appears as though a bail and chain have been added to revamp one of the sapphires from the original Saudi Suite’s earrings so it can be worn around her neck, including the original diamond halo being kept to maintain its heritage.”

So, much would a piece like this be worth?

Tatiana said: “With the centre sapphire weighing approximately 3.00-5.00ct, and the original halo totalling a further 6.00ctw, I would easily estimate this piece to be worth between £20,000-25,000, perhaps even more given the provenance of this piece.”

Princess Diana’s wedding dress, which she wore to her 1981 nuptials, undeniably caught viewers’ attention around the world. Today, the same can be said of the latest iteration of her iconic gown, made for Netflix’s The Crown; the late royal’s ensemble was recreated for the show and is so accurate, one of Princess Di’s wedding dress designers spoke out to praise it. According to People, Elizabeth Emanuel, who brought the original garment to life—25-foot-long train and all—alongside her former husband, David Emanuel, thinks the copy is spot-on. “The dress looks lovely,” Elizabeth told the outlet. “They have done a great job in capturing the spirit of the wedding gown.”

The resemblance between Diana’s dress and the recreation is uncanny—but, contrary to initial reports, the designer did not give The Crown’s producers the original patterns. The fashion mogul does, however, love the show and is looking

Princess Diana’s Wedding Dress Designer Praises The Crown ‘s Version of Gown: ‘It Captures the Spirit’

Netflix The Crown version of Princess Diana’s dress

One of the designers of Princess Diana’s iconic wedding dress is praising how The Crown has brought the gown to life in the upcoming new season.

Elizabeth Emanuel says that actress Emma Corrin, who plays Princess Diana in the hit Netflix series’ fourth season, looks “wonderful” in the gown after the first image was released over the weekend.

“The dress looks lovely,” Emanuel tells PEOPLE. “They have done a great job in capturing the spirit of the wedding gown.”

Elizabeth created the original dress, with its stunning 25-ft train that unfolded down the steps of St. Paul’s Cathedral on that July day nearly 40 years ago, with her then-husband David Emanuel. David spoke with the production team during the making of the fourth season, a Crown source confirms. But contrary to some reports, he and Elizabeth didn’t lend the producers the original
