How the Digital Red Carpet Is Changing Celebrity Fashion

The endless stream of parties, premieres, and awards shows that constitute the red carpet is at once a source of lighthearted entertainment and a billion-dollar business. For years, the step-and-repeats at these high-profile events were the best places to gauge a celebrity’s style or track a brand’s popularity amongst A-listers, but the system is now evolving. This year’s global reset has prompted a shift in the way people can gather, how they dress, and what they view as important. In Hollywood, the changes brought about by the coronavirus pandemic have had a significant impact on how films are made and the way they are promoted. That has meant traditions like the Emmys and MTV Video Music Awards going virtual, press tours occurring on the internet, and the temporary cancelation of institutions like the Cannes and Telluride Film Festivals.

Naturally, these changes have impacted the cottage industry that surrounds red carpet

“It’s Important to All of Us That Our Conversations Reflect What is Going on,” How the Digital Red Carpet is Changing Celebrity Fashion

Are digital facials the future of beauty?

Are you tempted to turn your bathroom into a beauty salon and do your own facial care, advised by a trained beautician? That’s what South African brand Optiphi is offering, in this period of social distancing, with its latest range of professional at-home treatments. What’s the concept? Order the necessary products adapted to your skin type, and then follow a virtual consultation to apply the products. Is it a glimpse into the future of salon treatments or a fad with a limited life span?

Lockdown measures have generated a great deal of frustration in terms of beauty routines. Both men and women have scoured the Internet for ideas, tips or advice to refresh their haircut, do a hair colour, or treat themselves to a moment of well-being through treatments to be performed from their bathroom. While many beauty professionals have reopened the doors of their salons, some brands are anticipating

Watch the First Digital Green Carpet Fashion Awards Here

Last month, we got a glimpse of what the first virtual Green Carpet Fashion Awards might look like. A high-resolution digital rendering depicted La Scala, the historic opera house in Milan, completely overgrown with flowers, greenery, and even a glittering waterfall. At the time, Livia Firth, the founder of Eco-Age (which works in partnership with the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana on the GCFA) said the idea was to create a “portal into a new era,” one where the fashion industry is more sustainable, equitable, and human. She teased that the digital GCFAs would also incorporate holograms, augmented reality, and special effects. Needless to say, it will be a lot more forward-thinking than the Zoom awards shows we’ve seen thus far.

Tonight, you can see it all play out in real time here. The digital Green Carpet Fashion Awards are streaming globally on YouTube via the Fashion Channel at 5:00pm

Thom Browne Hosts Digital Paris Fashion Week Show at L.A. Landmark

Like almost everything else in 2020, Paris Fashion Week looks very different this year. Since the event kicked off on September 28, there have been some in-person shows with masked audiences, but many designers, including Thom Browne, have opted to go digital.

To showcase his spring 2021 collection (which includes both menswear and womenswear), Browne created a short film that transports the viewer far, far away from 2020 Paris. The collection of white sporty blazers, pleated skits, chunky knits, and beekeeper-esque hats “was really based on the early 1920s Olympics,” Browne tells AD. It is fitting, then, that the massive stairs at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (which opened in 1923 and hosted the Olympic games in 1932 and 1984) served as the runway, and Olympic athletes (who would have competed in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo had it not been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic) as the

“We have seen some concerning signs of an enthusiasm gap among voters that, frankly, were left behind by Democratic outreach in 2016,” said Tara McGowan, the CEO of PACRONYM, a political action committee.

PACRONYM, which has been running a $75 million anti-Trump effort since 2019, will join Black PAC, Planned Parenthood Votes and EMILY’s List WOMEN VOTE! in committing the $10 million worth of digital ads.

“The groups that have come together believe strongly that Kamala Harris is an incredible asset to the Biden campaign and the Democratic ticket when it comes to increasing enthusiasm and motivation
