3 Key Takeaways From Women Leading Large Family Businesses In Canada

Earlier this year I was invited by the National Bank of Canada to be a part of a team interviewing senior women leaders in some of Canada’s top family-owned firms. We travelled to Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto for interviews, and also met with women in Montreal. Three elements that contribute to the success of family businesses struck me based on these interviews and other interviews of family members which I have conducted as part of McGill University’s CEO Insights MBA class.

The work our team undertook went toward the Fall 2020 edition of the National Bank’s Family Advantage report. This report aims to elucidate the inherent advantages of family-owned companies through an analysis of 38 Canadian corporations under family

Family of bride who died days after fairytale wedding share heartbreaking video

The family of Ashleigh Simrajh, 23, who died from cancer one month ago, have released her intimate wedding video to continue spreading her powerful message, and thank the local community for their support.

Last month, doctors told the terminally-ill young woman she had just days to live, but Ashleigh, who was diagnosed with melanoma, fought like a “superstar” marrying the love of her life, Jason Hale, in an emotional ceremony on the Gold Coast.

“Ashleigh pushed through until her wedding and lasted another 10 days after that which was an absolute bonus for us,” her distraught father Tony Simrajh told news.com.au.

Ask Amy: Future sister-in-law excluded from family wedding

Dear Amy: My niece’s brother-in-law, “Bradley,” will be getting married later this year.

My niece, “Kate,” is married to Bradley’s brother.

All of Bradley’s siblings and their spouses have been asked to be in the bridal party, everyone except for Kate.

Kate’s husband is in his brother’s party, but her future sister-in-law, “Julie,” has excluded Kate.

Kate included Julie in her wedding party several years ago.

Kate can think of nothing that would have offended Julie.

How should Kate handle this upcoming wedding?

— Sad Aunt

Dear Sad Aunt: In the movie version, “Kate” would attend the wedding, get roaring drunk at the reception, and then deliver the roasty-toast of the century.

Movie pitch aside, if every single sibling and spouse has been included in the wedding party, this exclusion does seem off-kilter. However, the fact that Kate included “Julie” in her own wedding does not obligate Julie to recipro-kate.

How Food Series ‘Family Style’ Completed a Second Season Mid-Pandemic

“Family Style” was midway through filming its second season when the coronavirus pandemic shut down both its featured subject — restaurants — and production. With several of the planned eight episodes of the Asian-centered food show half done and some not even filmed, producers from the Stage 13 and YOMYOMF joint production had to pivot amidst a time of uncertainty. Executive producer Philip Chung remembers exactly when they made the decision to shut production down in early March. “I remember everyone on the crew all of a sudden getting the alert that Tom Hanks got coronavirus,” he told TheWrap. “That was the moment when it really home for a lot of people on the crew. We knew COVID was an issue; the NBA the night before announced they were canceling their season.” “Obviously, we’re shooting an Asian food show and that was already an issue with some of the racism

A $25 million gift from the Lusardi family helps build new hospital tower at Scripps Encinitas

The Lusardi family name has long been associated with building, so it is no surprise that the latest philanthropic gift from Warner and Debbie Lusardi will help construct a building expected to have significant impact on the health of coastal North County residents for decades to come.

The Rancho Santa Fe couple, whose eponymous construction company was founded in Vista in 1958 and eventually found nationwide success, will give $25 million to Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas to help build a three-story, 64-room structure to be dubbed the Lusardi Tower when it opens in 2025.

Lusardis have been living in San Diego County since the 1860s, and Warner Lusardi said that experiences over the years at Scripps Encinitas directly informed the decision to make what is the facility’s largest single philanthropic donation since opening day in 1964.

“We’ve had some of our own workers with serious problems treated at Scripps Encinitas,

Family mourning loss of model and aspiring actress murdered in Euclid

EUCLID, Ohio (WJW) — She was a mother, a model and aspiring actress, but the life of an East Cleveland woman was cut short just as she was starting to live out her dreams.

Euclid police have two men in custody, charged with her murder.

“She did New York Fashion Week, she did Detroit Fashion Week, she did a lot of local modeling here in Cleveland, so when she came in and said she was going to London, that’s the happiest I’ve seen her,” said Rochelle Moore, the victim’s mother.

Thirty-four-year-old Shalaymiah Moore had dreams of becoming a model and they were coming true.  Her mother says she was anxiously looking forward to walking the runway in London this February.

“You wiped out her life when she first was at the top of her game,” said her mother.
