Tesla Slashes Sticker Prices on Flagship Model S Sedan Again

Tesla quietly has cut prices for its flagship Model S sedan and its Model S performance model by $3,000 each as demand for the flagship car falters, even as Tesla continues to churn out record numbers of EVs.

The electric carmaker lowered the starting price on its entry-level Model S available for delivery to $71,990 from $74,990. It also reduced its Tesla Model S Performance Model to $91,990 from $94,990.

The Tesla Model S Plaid, which was announced last month but won’t be delivered until late next year, didn’t get a price change with the configurator update. It is still listed at $139,990.

Flagship Purdue Polytechnic High School center named to honor $4M gift from business leaders Ed and Beatriz Schweitzer

INDIANAPOLIS — Purdue University President Mitch Daniels announced on Friday (Oct. 2) that the university’s flagship Purdue Polytechnic High School will honor Purdue alumnus Edmund O. Schweitzer III and Beatriz Schweitzer for their $4 million commitment to programs and scholarships to support the educational and career success of underrepresented students.

The naming of the Schweitzer Center at Purdue Polytechnic High School Englewood was approved by Purdue’s Board of Trustees during its meeting in Indianapolis, where Purdue created its first of three alternative charter high schools in 2017. The high schools were launched to better prepare traditionally underserved students in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines.

The naming honors the latest gift to Purdue from the couple, based in Pullman, Washington. Edmund Schweitzer earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Purdue’s School of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1968 and 1971. He is the founder, president and chief technology officer

Saks CEO Talks Fashion, Flagship and the Go-Forward Agenda

For the holiday 2020 season, Saks Fifth Avenue isn’t following the pack.

While many retailers, desperately trying to navigate the health crisis, have already started or will start the push to sell holiday gifts four to six weeks earlier than last year, Saks isn’t rushing into it.

“Our gifting story starts about the same time. It’s mid-November when we start the push. We’re not moving it up,” Marc Metrick, president and chief executive officer of Saks Fifth Avenue, said. “Saks approaches holiday a little bit differently than Lord & Taylor and Macy’s.”

Aside from discussing holiday 2020, Metrick in a wide-ranging Zoom call interview, said online sales are up by double digits; brick-and-mortar is flat, and the Fifth Avenue flagship is having a tough time, though he contended Saks is capturing market and beamed about men’s wear as the best-selling department.

Saks has been mostly mum on its plans for
