To the list of those souls lost to COVID-19, add the name of the pioneering fashion designer Kenzo Takada, who died this month at a Paris hospital at the age of 81. Takada — whose fashion company was known by his first name, Kenzo — helped bring Japanese fashion to the world, paving the way for many later Japanese designers. Takada, who was one of the first men to attend Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo, arrived in Paris in 1964. Initially planning a short stay, he ended up spending the rest of his life there, opening his first store in 1970 and presenting playful, exuberant fashion shows until the 1990s; later, he designed for opera and presented a homewares collection. Here, he’s seen as a young man with Italian actress Gina Lollobrigida in 1977 (she had just awarded him the title of one of the

Building that houses iconic Tacoma clothing store, barbershop to be razed for apartments

The current location of both the clothing store Mr. Mac Ltd. as well as Sam and Terry’s barbershop will be torn down.

Sharing the same building on the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Earnest Brazill Street, Mr. Mac Ltd. was run by Morris “Mr. Mac” McCollum for more than 50 years. McCollum died in 2017.

An event is set this weekend to celebrate his life and sell off much of the store’s merchandise, with proceeds going to the Tacoma Ministerial Alliance which also now owns

Moritz Glik’s Newest Collection Shakes Up Jewelry’s Iconic Classics

I first met Mortiz Glik in 2004 at Jewelry Week in Las Vegas. I was the senior editor for a luxury national jewelry magazine and Paul Schneider-co-owners with his wife Lauren from Twist and Twistonline.com told me there was a designer I needed to meet, walked me over and introduced me to Moritz who was animatedly explaining the collection to another editor. A Brazilian born-bench jeweler with an instinct for innovative compositions, I noticed immediately that Moritz created movement and a fluidity to his designs which distinguished his collection. His sensibility and knowledge of all facets of jewelry construction allowed the diamonds to shimmer when the wearer moved. I understood what Paul had seen in him. When Moritz talks about his collection, he reveals his affable personality and sense of humor combined with and intense focus and ability to
