1 arrested, another wanted after shooting death of man in town for a wedding

Columbia police have arrested one man and are looking for another in connection to the shooting death of a Greenville man who had come to Columbia for a wedding.

Police say they have arrested 20-year-old Xavier York Glover, who is charged with murder and armed robbery. 

Investigators are also searching for a second man, 20-year-old Zachery Jamell Williams, who should be considered armed and dangerous. Police say warrants are pending for Williams, who may be driving a white or gray 2002 Honda CRV with South Carolina tag LLA-715.

In a crime alert online, the University of South Carolina said Williams is a current USC student residing off-campus.

Man arrested in assaults of 2 elderly women in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A man suspected of beating two elderly women in separate attacks last month in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood has been arrested, authorities said.

Officers arrested Michael Turner, 34, last week in the assault of a 78-year-old woman on the morning of September 15th and a 71-year-old woman a week later, KPIX-TV reported.

Police said the 78-year-old woman was walking on a sidewalk when she was struck in the head, causing her to fall and lose consciousness. The woman was taken to the hospital where doctors determined she suffered a broken hip, San Francisco police said Monday.

Following Turner’s arrest, investigators determined he was also linked to an assault of a 71-year-old woman on September 22nd. In that case, police said the woman was walking near her son when she was attacked. Police said the son, who was walking ahead of her mother, turned around and found

Greenville man shot, killed in Columbia, SC near Five Points

The Richland County Coroner’s Office has identified the man whose body was found near Five Points early Sunday morning.

Wesley Colin Brown was shot and killed, Coroner Gary Watts said in a news release shared by the Columbia Police Department Monday.

The search for the gunman continues.

Brown, a 26-year-old from Greenville, was in Columbia to attend a wedding, according to the release. He was not with any members of the wedding party or other guests when he was shot, police said.

His body was found in the 1700 block of Senate Street by two people on a morning walk, according to the release. That’s close to the intersection with Henderson Street, and in the shadow of the Heritage Condos complex, near the Five Points area.

The called 911 about 8 a.m., and Brown was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Sam Mewis goal video: US star scores Man City FA Cup semis winner

Manchester City Women’s American duo is starting to make an impact.

Sam Mewis scored what wound up being the game-winner, while Rose Lavelle played her first minutes for the club in a 2-1 triumph over Arsenal in the Women’s FA Cup semifinals on Thursday. Man City will play Everton, a 3-0 semifinal winner over Birmingham City, in the Nov. 1 final at Wembley Stadium. These matches mark the completion of the 2019-20 tournament, which had been suspended as a result of the pandemic. The 2020-2021 competition is currently in the qualifying-round stages.

For Man City to reach the final, Mewis broke a 1-1 deadlock at the 40-minute mark, pouncing on a loose ball in the Arsenal box to complete a sequence that she started. 

Mewis’s finish followed a superb goal by Jordan Nobbs, which had brought Arsenal level after Steph Houghton’s opener on an excellent free kick.

After Jordan Nobbs had canceled out City captain Steph Houghton’s opener from a free kick, Mewis netted the winner in the 41st minute.

Chloe Kelly’s cross from the right found Ellen White, who managed to scramble the ball back for the unmarked Mewis to strike into the net.

Fellow American World Cup winner Rose Lavelle made her City debut as a second-half substitute.

3rd man indicted in alleged counterfeit clothing scheme

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A federal grand jury has indicted a North Dakota man accused of participating in a scheme to manufacture counterfeit clothing overseas that was then sold to the U.S. military and other buyers, federal prosecutors announced Thursday.

Terry Roe, 50, worked with two other men to have parkas and other items produced in China and Pakistan that carried fake labels identical to genuine U.S. trademarks, the U.S. attorney’s office in Rhode Island said.

Many of the fake garments claimed to be weather-resistant and have other qualities that they did not, prosecutors said. The scheme involved more than $20 million worth of counterfeit goods that were sold to military and government buyers.

TAMPA, Florida — Shopping carts are one of the most touched items in a supermarket, often leaving its handles covered in bacteria. Now, a man is speaking with national supermarket chains after inventing a device to sanitize the carts.

“There’s been a lot of studies that have shown it’s almost one of the dirtiest things in a grocery store,” Adam Labadie told WFTS.

Since then, he has spent his days working in his garage, making changes and tweaks to his invention, which is something he said would eliminate grocery store wipes with just the touch of a button.
