NIght out in Moscow: few masks and many shrugs at rising coronavirus cases

That morning, Russia had announced more than 12,000 new confirmed coronavirus cases in the past day — a record increase for the country with the world’s fourth-largest number of cases. Then, on Tuesday, Russia set a record for daily deaths from the coronavirus with 244. On Wednesday, it was 239 deaths linked to the virus, and 14,200 new cases.

The autumn spike in infections in Russia had seemed inevitable. After a two-month spring lockdown with strict restrictions, there were practically no constraints over the summer. Mask requirements exist, but they’re rarely observed or enforced. While some establishments do temperature checks at the door, there’s no social distancing inside or limits on capacity.

The question I’m asked most often when catching up with friends and

Groom’s van, bride’s purse stolen on wedding night

WXYZ — It was far from an ideal end to a wedding day that was already altered by COVID-19 precautions.

A newlywed couple held a socially distanced reception in a family member’s Livonia backyard. Everyone had a good time, with safety top of mind.

But little did the bride and groom know, a thief was lurking nearby.

They found out the hard way.

When it was time to leave the reception the groom’s cargo van was nowhere to be found.

The Ford Transit-250 was stolen from Pollyanna Street near Farmington and 6 Mile roads.

Along with the van, the thief took off with the bride’s purse, phone and other belongings.

The couple would like to remain unnamed to maintain some privacy during this exciting yet troubling time.

They’re hoping the Motor City can come together to provide them with one last wedding gift: help bring their van home.

A report

This is the subtext that led into Wednesday night’s debate between Republican Vice President Mike Pence and Democratic challenger Kamala Harris, and since 2020 is the year subtlety died, flies showed up and circled the VP candidates to drive the point home.

In historical context, the Pence-Harris debate was about as ordinary as it gets. Granted, it took place just days after President
