Jewelry Houses Show Latest Collections in Paris

PARIS — With seasonal calendars turned upside-down by the coronavirus pandemic, a number of jewelry houses took advantage of recent activity in Paris to show off their latest pieces, including Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Chaumet, Dior, Chopard and Messika.

Francesca Amfitheatrof jetted into the French capital to present her second high-jewelry collection, “Stellar Times,” for Vuitton, taking to the private salon of the house’s Place Vendôme flagship to present the pieces, then hosting a dinner at the Ritz with celebrities including Alicia Vikander and Catherine Deneuve, as well as clients and members of the press.

For the previous collection — her first at the label — the designer had sought to lay the groundwork for an assertive proposition.

“I felt it needed to be a very clear, historical medieval women, to put the stake in the ground — it was a new moment,” she recalled.

“Here I wanted to reinforce the

Paris Fashion Week Wraps Sans International Retailers In Attendance. Will This Affect Their Offerings Come Spring?

The nine-day Paris Fashion Week physi-digital show experience for Spring 2021 wrapped last week, albeit in an altered manner. Live presentations accounted for roughly fifty percent of the brand’s collection reveals. The current Coronavirus pandemic kept all but local retailers away – and even some of those chose to sit it out and watch online.

With common sense dictating no travel rules for buyers abroad, they experienced the shows virtually. I asked four retail executives: Roopal Patel, Fashion Director, Saks Fifth Avenue, Laure Heriard Debreuil founder of The Webster, Lisa Aiken, Moda Operandi’s Buying and Fashion Director, and Libby Paige, Net-A-Porter’s Senior Fashion Market Editor, their take on the season in Paris and what their racks and webpages will be stocking this Spring.

NOTHING BEATS IN PERSON Unanimously all agreed that

9 Fall Outfit Ideas Inspired by The Street Style Crew at Paris Fashion Week

Not many peacocks flocked to Paris Fashion Week this season. The spring 2021 shows are normally swarming with decadent and over-the-top fashion on the streets. But this time around, things were different. Due to the pandemic, there were fewer physical runway presentations, no major events, and with travel restrictions still in place, fewer people in attendance. The street style reflected this forced, new sense of calm and quiet. Those who attended Paris Fashion Week certainly got dressed up, and to be sure, there was plenty of major fashion to behold during the last week or so. But mostly, the street style crew spotted in the City of Light kept things sartorially chill.

They mixed and matched classics, and favored jeans and easy jackets over heavy, embellished dresses and outerwear. Though, there were some feathers and wild prints too, the former of which was spotted on comfy sweats that deserved to

Paris Fashion Week Spring Summer 2021: See The Best Looks

I’m sorry, did basic betch Emily from Emily In Paris show up to France and suck every inch of taste from the whole damn town? Maybe I’m being overdramatic, but I couldn’t help but feel like Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2021 was lacking the magic it usually delivers. I oohed and ahhed very few times, and I ughed and ewed far more than expected.

Of course, prep time ahead of this Fashion Month was quite a bit different than it usually is, seeing as we were up against a global pandemic and all. Many designer ateliers closed down in accordance with safety guidelines, while others pivoted to making masks, developing hand sanitizers and aiding the fight against COVID-19 in any way they could. Still, they knew that in some way, shape or form, their SS21 collections needed to get done.

While most of the shows at New York Fashion Week

Stella McCartney Closes Paris Fashion Week With Her ‘McCartney A To Z Manifesto’

For her SS21 womenswear collection, fashion designer Stella McCartney used, as she is calling ‘our global summer of pause’ to be reminded of why she’s a fashion designer so that she can give back her art to the world. Collaborating with twenty-six artists, people she has known throughout her design journey, McCartney asked if they’d pick one letter in the English alphabet and visualize the letter with free rein.

Putting her thoughts on what matters most, McCartney wanted to re-enter the post lockdown world being mindful and conscious, ‘but how does one do that,’ she pondered for months. She put what really matters the most into words and came up with a manifesto- The McCartney

The Trends Of Paris Fashion Week Were A Marriage Of Beauty And Function

Paris Fashion Week is always the apex of fashion month, with its next-level street style, unparalleled lineup of runway shows, and celebrity-packed front rows. And while international travel limitations may have resulted in some of its usual crowd being forced to watch from home, for the most part, COVID-19 didn’t hinder fashion from taking over the French capital this week with trends just as standout as years past.

At Rick Owens, Marine Serre, Rokh, Maison Margiela, and more, the bleakness of the last seven months was transformed into something beautiful. Big shoulders, face coverings, and gothic colors, silhouettes, and backgrounds made for fashion that was an escape. Not an escape from reality (after all, our reality is pretty dark right now), but rather, an escape from the faux normalcy that so many designers have been pushing for this season.

On a lighter note, lockdown trends continued to show face, just

The Glorious Absurdity of Paris Fashion

It was the giant floating dachshund spaceship that did it.

It drifted over an expansive Art Deco coliseum — site of the 2132 Lunar Games, an intergalactic extravaganza supposedly taking place 239,000 miles from earth as men and women in 50 shades of intricately worked sporting whites flew the flag of hope — to close Thom Browne’s show.

It was ridiculous and charming at once, as was the scenario, which called to mind all sorts of things (“The Hunger Games,” the 1920s tennis star Suzanne Lenglen, “Chariots of Fire”). So too were the clothes: jackets and long pleated skirts and tops transformed into bottoms and bottoms into tops, all elevated by handwork into something actively precious. It took the postponed Tokyo Olympics and reimagined them not as a symbol of loss and stasis but as a symbol of possibility.

And it crystallized the absurdity of the whole exercise: of holding

Chanel and Louis Vuitton close Paris fashion week in spectacular style

Chanel went back to the timeless glamour of black and white Hollywood movies while Louis Vuitton embraced a gender neutral future on the last day of Paris fashion week Tuesday.

An army of the world’s top supermodels walked under a huge Hollywood-style sign spelling out Chanel’s name in its biggest catwalk spectacle since designer Virginie Viard took over the fabled French house from Karl Lagerfeld after his death last year.

They included the body positive pin-up, Jill Kortleve, the Dutch model who is a voluptuous size 16 (US size 12).

Covid-19 restrictions may have limited the number of fashionistas allowed into the immense Grand Palais in central Paris, but like the decor, Viard wrote her ambitions large.

Her collection was no less than a grand sweep through the long history of the label founded by Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, with a giant nod to Chanel’s time in Tinseltown in the 1930s
