Bugatti could set revenue record in 2020, but will delay second model, company president says

Bugatti is still making bank.

The VW Group-owned hypercar maker could set a record year for revenue in 2020 despite the global economic slowdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic, but is still feeling its effects.

Bugatti president Stephan Winkelmann told Bloomberg that plans for a second model that would slot in below its $3 million Chiron hypercar have been put on hold.

“We had talks about a second-model lineup,” Winkelmann told the outlet. “This was now blocked due to the coronavirus crisis; we’re not talking about what’s coming next.”

This is the second time this year the VW Group-owned automaker has announced a development delay for the new vehicle, which a company source told Automotive News would be neither a sedan or SUV.

Facebook revenue chief says ad-supported model is ‘under assault’

Facebook Chief Revenue Officer David Fischer said Tuesday that the economic models that rely on personalized advertising are “under assault” as Apple readies a change that would limit the ability of Facebook and other companies to target ads and estimate how well they work.

The change to Apple’s identifier for advertisers, or IDFA, will give iPhone users the option to block tracking when opening an app. It was originally planned for iOS 14, the version of the iPhone operating system that was released last month. But Apple said last month it was delaying the rollout until 2021 “to give developers time to make necessary changes.”

Oklahoma ups fuel tax at wrong time for revenue boost; new model likely needed to fund roads, experts say | Govt-and-politics

“We should look at this as an opportunity to innovate and not just how do we collect road taxes and these vehicles that aren’t paying it,” Jaynes told lawmakers. “There’s a much bigger puzzle we need to pay attention to.”

For the past several years, legislators have considered several methods for taxing EVs, including what would amount to a higher sales tax on them and a flat annual registration fee in addition to the usual motor vehicle taxes.

Jaynes said the sales tax — actually, the targeted elimination of an exemption that applies to all vehicles — would have equaled on average 12 years of fuel taxes for comparable vehicles.

A flat tax on EVs and hybrids was actually enacted in 2017, but the state Supreme Court disallowed it. There remains interest in such a levy, but Jaynes said it would not raise enough money.
