Royal weddings are full of time-honoured traditions, from the myrtle in the bride’s bouquet to the sparkling tiara atop her head—and one of the most special, but lesser-known customs involves the wedding rings.

Since Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon’s marriage to the future King George VI in 1923, many royals (including the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex) have had their wedding bands made from Welsh gold, and the Queen is no exception.

In a new book titled Prince Philip: Revealed, royal biographer Ingrid Seward tells the story of the British monarch’s ring, revealing that the jewellery conceals a hidden message.

“At least Philip didn’t have the expense of a wedding ring, as the people of Wales supplied a nugget of Welsh gold from which the ring is made,” she wrote of Prince

Artist Amalia Ulman Will Become a Model-for-Hire in a New Exhibition Held in a Very Exotic, Very Secret Location: the Dark Web

New artworks by six contemporary artists, including Amalia Ulman, David Horvitz, and Joshua Citarella, are going onto the dark web next month as part of “Time Out of Joint,” a new exhibition curated by New York-based artistic partners Eva and Franco Mattes.

The show, which is part of the online-only Yerevan Biennial, can only be accessed through a special browser.

Worried about web safety? As far as internet activities go, getting on the dark web is about as safe as surfing Amazon (perhaps even more so, many would argue). But the location is sure to scare some people—and that’s the point.

“One of the goals of this show is to bring people to a place they are not familiar with—even if it’s just one click away,” Eva and Franco Mattes tell Artnet News over email.

Prince Philip: The secret message Philip sent Queen on wedding day | Royal | News

The Queen and Prince Philip have been together for decades, having married in 1947.

Although few knows what the hidden message says, the Queen has spoken candidly of her husband many times.

Celebrating their older anniversary in 1997, the monarch said of her husband: “He is someone who doesn’t take easily to compliments but he has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years, and I, and his whole family, and this and many other countries, owe him a debt greater than he would ever claim, or we shall ever know.”

For their 70th wedding anniversary in 2017, the Queen honoured her husband with a new title.

Prince Philip became Knight Grand Cross of the Royal victorian Order.

According to a statement from Buckingham Palace, the honour is a form of chivalry personally given by the Queen for “services to the sovereign”.
