After 6-year-old killed execution-style, Michigan police may ask feds to seek death penalty

WARREN, MI — Police say a 6-year-old boy was killed execution-style during a double homicide at a home in Warren Thursday, and if the suspect is found, they may seek the death penalty through federal assistance. Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer made the announcement during a press conference Friday.

“If we bring the federal authorities in, we may be asking for the death penalty for the person or persons responsible. I’m not saying we are at this point,” Dwyer said.

The death penalty has been outlawed in Michigan since 1963. However, if the case moves to a federal level, it would open the door for a possible death penalty sentence.

“When you murder a 6-year-old innocent baby, the person or persons responsible deserve the death penalty,” Dwyer said.

Police seek tips on May looting of La Mesa jewelry store

Authorities on Monday reached out to the public for help in identifying a group of people suspected of breaking into and looting a La Mesa jewelry store following a protest against police brutality nearly four months ago.

Surveillance cameras captured photos and video of at least six people suspected of breaking into Pierre’s Jewelers, 8324 La Mesa Blvd., on the night of May 30, according to La Mesa police.

Many of the individuals were wearing face coverings, but one woman had a tattoo on her left forearm and one man had tattoos on his right forearm, left forearm and right elbow.
