Oct 13 (Reuters)Tesla Inc TSLA.O said on Tuesday it cut the price of its Model S “Long Range” sedan by 4% in the United States, days after the electric-car maker reported record quarterly deliveries.

The company, which is expected to report third-quarter results on Oct. 21, cut the price to $71,990 from $74,990 in the United States. It also trimmed the starting price of the Model S by 3% in China. (https://bit.ly/34PqCew)

Earlier this month, Tesla cut the starting price of its Chinese-made Model 3 sedans by about 8% to 249,900 yuan ($36,805).

Tesla cuts Model S price by $3,000 amid sales slide

Tesla has cut the price of the Model S by $3,000 as sales of the flagship sedan continue to decline.

The move follows a $5,000 price drop in May.

The Model S Long Range Plus now starts at $71,990 in the U.S. while the Performance version lists for $91,990.

Unlike legacy automakers, Tesla relies on base price adjustments rather than rebates to incentivize sales. The price of the Model S was also reduced 3% in China.

Tesla drops prices on Model S (NASDAQ:TSLA)

As was largely anticipated, Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) has officially dropped the price of both versions of the Model S available for order on its website by $3K.

The Long Range Plus version of the sedan now starts at $71,990 in the U.S., and the Performance version starts at $91,990. Those marks include potential incentives and gas savings.

The price cut is the second in five months for the Model S. The earlier price cuts by the automaker also included the Model 3 and Model X.

Shares of Tesla are up 0.84% premarket to $445.77.

Woman Says Tesla Model 3 Saved Her Life After ‘Head-On’ Collision With Truck Going 70 Mph

Tesla boss Elon Musk has responded after an Ohio woman credited a Model 3 electric car with saving her life during a crash last Sunday.

Images from the scene of the collision were published to Twitter yesterday by the Tesla Columbus Ohio Owners profile, which said its member Jen Dunlap and her friend, who was not named, were hit by a “drunk driver” on the evening of October 11.

The tweet added: “They got hit HEAD ON by a wrong way driver (truck) on a highway, both going 70 m.p.h. and Jen credits… her Model 3 for saving her life!”

According to the group, which covers the Columbus region, Dunlap suffered only minimal injuries, including a sprained ankle and a broken rib. Yesterday, it said the friend was “in the hospital being monitored but things are looking positive.”

Tesla Slashes Sticker Price on Flagship Model S Sedan Again

Tesla  (TSLA) – Get Report quietly has cut prices for its flagship Model S sedan and its Model S performance model by $3,000 each as the electric carmaker continues to pump out record numbers of battery-powered vehicles. 

The electric carmaker lowered the starting price on its entry-level Model S available for delivery to $71,990 from $74,990. It also reduced its Tesla Model S Performance Model to $91,990 from $94,990.

The Tesla Model S Plaid, which was announced last month but won’t be delivered until late next year, didn’t get a price change with the configurator update. It is still listed at $139,990.

The pricing update follows price cuts across Tesla’s lineup earlier this year that affected Model 3, Model S, and the six-seat Model X.

Tesla (TSLA) has reduced the price of its flagship sedan, the Model S, today. The electric car now starts at just $71,990.

The Model S and Model X programs have been in declined for a while now.

Tesla delivered 15,200 units of both vehicles last quarter – down from 17,400 during the same period last year and down from 27,660 vehicles (14,470 Model S, and 13,190 Model X) back in Q3 2018.

During that time, Tesla has mainly focused on the cheaper Model 3 and Model Y vehicle programs.

Nevertheless, the automaker is still updating Model S and Model X regularly with new performance and features, most recently with a range increase to 402 miles for the Model S.
