Tesla releases new Model 3 wheels with 2021 refresh

Tesla has released a new Model 3 wheel design as part of its 2021 refresh and the vehicles are starting to ship.

Over the last few days, we have been reporting on Tesla currently updating the Model 3 with a significant refresh that includes several new features.

The rollout is kind of strange since the automaker has yet to confirm any of the new features despite starting to ship out the new vehicle from Fremont factory.

Now new Model 3 cars were spotted being shipped out of Fremont factory with new wheels.

An Electrek reader spotted truckloads of new 2021 Model 3 vehicles near Tesla’s Fremont factory and we can see that they are equipped with a brand new wheel design never seen on a Model 3 until now:

The new design is similar to Tesla’s 19’’ Sport Wheels for Model 3 with some slight differences.

Tesla Model 3 Price Too High? Dirt-Cheap Used Electric Cars Can Be Good Deals

The used EV has arrived.

It was only nine years ago that the first won’t-break-the-bank electric cars arrived.

Those non-Tesla EVs — like the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt — weren’t priced at $80,000 like the Model S and the first- and second- generations of those cars have been hitting the used car market over the last several years.

And with a Long Range 2020 Tesla Model 3 starting at about $47,000, “dirt cheap” for an EV is anything under $20,000.

A couple of the better sites for used EVs are MYEV and CarGurus.

Most of the used EVs cited below are first- and second-generation electrics that were sold roughly between 2011 and 2017.

Note: all prices are based on a used vehicle

Is Tesla Updating the Model 3?

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said in the past that Tesla constantly updates their vehicles, making changes as soon as possible rather than waiting for model year updates. However, occasionally more impactful updates can be grouped together resulting in noticeable differences. It appears Tesla may be on the verge of such an update for the Model 3 produced in Fremont, CA.

Electrek has reportedly been show photos of an updated Model 3 with a number of changes.

“Now we can confirm that Tesla is indeed planning to bundle several updates to the Model 3, and that it is about to start delivery of the new version. We have seen pictures of the new Model 3, but we are not able to share the pictures at this time in order to protect sources,” writes Electrek.

Here is a summary of the changes being made, per Electrek, which they note may not

2020 Tesla Model Y Dual Motor Long Range Tested: It’s the “Slow” One

Several months ago, you read our first driving impressions of the new 2020 Tesla Model Y, along with some bootleg performance numbers. We say “bootleg” because all our usual testing facilities were shut down by, well, you know what. We’ve been working to get you the full and complete test data you deserve since then. So here it is.

There is one teeny little catch, however: Because Model Ys are so popular, Tesla wasn’t able to provide one. Enter Richard Hak of Precision One Design in Torrance, California, who agreed to rent us his low-mileage 2020 Tesla Model Y Dual Motor Long Range for this test. We like to evaluate brand-new cars provided by automakers so we know they’re in pristine condition, haven’t been modified or crashed, and have no outstanding mechanical or software issues or open recalls. Sometimes, though, you have take what you can get. We bought Richard

Elon Musk reveals Berlin-made Tesla Model Y will get its new batteries first

Tesla head honcho Elon Musk revealed in a tweet that the company is working on new, more efficient EV batteries that it aims to begin using in its upcoming Gigafactory near Berlin.

Musk noted that when the Berlin plant — which will likely open next year — will use a larger cylindrical 4680 format cell in its new structural battery pack. The company had unveiled this cell design at its recent Battery Day event last month.

We’d previously learned that this fourth Gigafactory is slated to begin producing a revamped Model Y with a “radical redesign” of its “core technology” in the second half of 2021, so that’s where this battery will be implemented.

He added that this move will introduce some production risk, and that it’ll take a couple of years for Tesla‘s Fremont- and Shanghai-based plants to adopt this technology.
