In Leadup to Election, More Women, Young People Say They Won’t Vote: Poll

An increasing number of women and young people say they do not plan to vote as November’s election quickly approaches, according to a new poll.

The Hill/HarrisX poll released Friday found that 6 percent of voters aged 18 to 34 said they would not vote, compared to 4 percent in the same poll from one week earlier. The number of women who said they did not plan on voting was 5 percent, moving from 3 percent the previous week.

Although a large majority of younger voters taking part in the poll said they would vote in the election, they were still the least likely of all age groups to indicate they would participate on both weeks of polling. An even number of women and men, 3 percent, said they would not vote in last week’s poll.

This week’s poll was conducted online among 2,841 registered voters between October 3

We Asked JB Hi-Fi Why It Won’t Accept Gift Cards For Xbox Series X and PS5 Pre-Orders

This week, JB Hi-Fi began sending out texts to customers who had pre-ordered PS5 and Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. There’s been backlash for a number of reasons, including the revelation that gift cards won’t be an acceptable form of payment.

Other frustrations have included some customers being bumped from launch day delivery due to the sheer volume of orders. There has also been some confusion around when some customers will receive their consoles. However, this has been an issue across a number of online retailers.

The first round of texts from JB Hi-Fi went out on October 5, which was a public holiday in New South Wales.

“Your spot in the queue for your PS5 Console pre-order is confirmed! We’ll SMS you soon with a link to pay your remaining console balance. Pay by Mastercard, Visa or PayPal. Gift Cards not accepted. More info: https://jbhifi.com.au/2020consoles,” one of

LAFC won’t change style despite key absences due to international duty

As LAFC look to charge up the table as MLS enters the stretch run of the season with eight matches left, the reigning Supporters’ Shield champions will be without a number of key contributors for at least four games due to international duty.

League-leading scorer Diego Rossi and fellow Designated Player Brian Rodriguez will be with the Uruguayan national team while Diego Palacios and Jose Cifuentes will be with Ecuador for the next few weeks. LAFC are hopeful that the quartet will be available to return to the field against the LA Galaxy on October 25.

“Even when we’re down some players, the overall way we want to try and play stays the same,” head coach Bob Bradley told media on a virtual press conference Tuesday. “There can be some minor adjustments. … What you’ll see is us, just doing our best.”

LAFC begin this stretch against the Colorado Rapids

October means final group at Women’s PGA won’t have leaders

So much for that notion of a 54-hole lead giving players more time to sleep in.

The PGA of America had to get creative with an October date for the Women’s PGA Championship at Aronimink in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, not only with about three fewer hours of daylight but with NBC having other programming commitments on the weekend.

Kerry Haigh, the chief championships officer for the PGA, says the tee times will be adjusted Sunday so that the final four groups will be at the bottom of the pack. Provided there are no weather delays or incomplete rounds, the leading threesome will tee off on No. 1 at 8:43 a.m. The last group will tee off at 9:27 a.m.

The TV window for the Women’s PGA on Sunday is 10 a.m. to noon on Golf Channel, and noon to 2 p.m. on NBC. The network has a NASCAR race in

Google says beauty filters bad for mental health, Pixel phones won’t use them by default

a close up of a piece of paper

Modern-day smartphones come with a lot of enhancements to improve photography experience, with many of them offering beauty filters and other such features to smoothen out skin details in pictures. However, there has always been debate over the use of such methods, with few studies showing that these filters can have a negative effect on mental health.

It appears Google has also been keeping eye on such reports, with the company now announcing that it will be distancing its phones from such features. Google has said that it will be turning them off by default on its own phones and encouraging other OEMs to do the same.

In a blog post, it said, “We set out to better understand the effect filtered selfies might have on people’s wellbeing… especially when filters are on by default. We conducted multiple studies and spoke with the child and mental health experts from around

Google says ‘beauty’ filters are bad for your mental health, Pixel cameras won’t use them by default

Google says 'beauty' filters are bad for your mental health, Pixel cameras won't use them by default

Most smartphones have offered some type of ‘beauty’ filter for years, which smooth out pimples, freckles, wrinkles, and other details in your face. There are a few studies that show such functionality can have a negative effect on mental health, and as a result, Google is now turning them off by default on its own phones and encouraging other OEMs to do the same.

“We set out to better understand the effect filtered selfies might have on people’s wellbeing,” Google said in a blog post, “especially when filters are on by default. We conducted multiple studies and spoke with child and mental health experts from around the world, and found that when you’re not aware that a camera or photo app has applied a filter, the photos can negatively impact mental wellbeing. These default filters can quietly set a beauty standard that some people compare themselves against.”

Four reasons Biden’s campaigning-free campaign style won’t survive 2020, win or lose

Joe Biden has pursued an unorthodox strategy of running for president that involves not campaigning. Since March, Biden has rarely left his house. He holds few events, doesn’t give many interviews, and as of late, has wrapped up his public schedule early in the morning.

There has been some speculation about whether, if he proves successful, his 2020 campaign strategy will change how candidates run for office. But win or lose, there are several reasons Biden’s strategy is unlikely to be replicated in future presidential elections. Here are four of them:

Biden’s name recognition: It’s very rare for a challenger to be as well-known as Biden. Already somebody who served in the Senate for decades, Biden was in the public eye for eight years as vice president, including his personal struggle with grief after his son’s death from cancer. Typically, somebody challenging an incumbent needs to introduce himself to voters,
